Original idrija lace design Tina Koder

Postage stamp – Contemporary Craftspeople of Slovenia

Ljubljana, 27 Jan 2021

I’m happy to announce that on 29 January 2021 Pošta Slovenije will issue a new stamp in the series Contemporary Craftspeople of Slovenia, featuring a motif from my original Idrija lace. The stamp and first-day cover were designed by the renowned visual-communications designer Pavla Bonča, with photography by Gregor Grajzar. The central motif is a detail of the middle section of a lace necklace I designed and made a few years ago. I’m delighted that bobbin lace is part of Pošta Slovenije’s selection—and proud that the piece on the stamp is mine.

  • Postage Stamps Bulletin 134
  • Pošta Slovenije Bulletin 134 about the stamp — contemporary bobbin lace
  • Red lace necklace — motif used for the postage stamp

In the current philatelic bulletin, Prof. Dr. Janez Bogataj writes that bobbin lacemaking, grounded in a rich heritage, has decisively turned toward contemporary technological, design and functional possibilities; such progress demands both technical and design knowledge. Among today’s creators is Tina Koder Grajzar from Idrija, devoted above all to contemporary lace jewellery—also exemplified by the necklace on this stamp.
