Ljubljana, 24 November 2014
On Monday, 24 November, a sales exhibition of jewellery opened at Atelje Gallery (Gallusovo nabrežje 29). I created it together with Macedonian designer Biljana (Bibi) Klekačkoska. In an original way we combined two techniques characteristic of our environments — Idrija bobbin lace and filigree. The result is a small collection of contemporary jewellery titled Goddess Mother and the Dragon, uniting the symbols of the cities where we live — Skopje and Ljubljana.
These two symbols also reflect the dual, opposing yet complementary feminine–masculine principle, which is mirrored in the pieces both at the level of form and material.
Writer Barbara Dragović captured the goddess and the dragon especially for the occasion in a short story; excerpts appear in the gallery interior and nicely complement the design narrative. The opening was lovely and well attended; I was delighted by the visitors’ sincere enthusiasm. On the chilly autumn evening the band Etnoziasti added warmth with their performance. The exhibition remains in this form until 6 December, after which other artists will join, completing the gallery’s pre-holiday atmosphere.
