Luxurious Idrija lace necklace for the Silk Museum of Como competition (Italy)

Como, Italy, 16 March – 29 April 2011

In spring I took part in a European bobbin-lace competition organised for the fourth time by the Silk Museum (Museo didattico della seta) in Como, Italy. The exhibition of entries ran at the museum from 16 March to 29 April.

  • Luxurious Idrija lace necklace — silk (detail)
  • Luxurious Idrija lace necklace — competition in Como, Italy
  • Idrija lace necklace — silk (worn)

My lace piece is titled “Awakening” and depicts a stylised tree branch gradually budding into a flower. It combines silk (flowers) and cotton (branch), with some parts transitioning into three-dimensional form. The work was designed to be worn as a necklace. The competition awarded three prizes for traditional and three for contemporary lace; the award-winning works are presented on the museum’s website. I did not receive an award this time, but I’m left with a beautiful piece you can see in the photos.
